As a result of a great two day 'preparation' trip to Liverpool, the Hawks Academy beat a tough Southport Academy at Haig Avenue Stadium today 2-1 with a stunning volley from captain Danny Mackney and a super finish from Harvey Whyte. The Hawks could have gone 2 up after Whyte dribbled through about 5 tackles only to drill the ball at the opposition goalkeeper. Southport saw a glimmer of hope when they were awarded a penalty which they duly converted. But the Hawks rallied and with Whyte's goal sealed things up to win the game and a semi final place v Bromley next Monday - venue and KO time TBA.
For anyone who is wondering what this achievement means - if we win our final two games the Hawks Academy will be considered the best outside the professional game.
