Nine-man Hawks fend off Welling
Sat Mar 6 2010, 19:09
The Hawks went down by a single goal to Welling United at Park View Road this afternoon, although the 1-0 score line does little to acknowledge an astonishing rearguard action fought by the visitors after being reduced to nine men before half time.
The visitors fell behind just seven minutes in when Ian Simpemba’s foul on Jack Parkinson gave the Wings a penalty that Lee Clarke fired low into the corner of the net.
But the toothless home side were unable to further their lead, even after Mustafa Tiryaki and Ian Selley were both sent off within a minute of each other at the end of the first half.

Fogden is first Player of the Month of 2010
Thu Mar 4 2010, 19:18
HawkSupport member Kyle Jamieson celebrated his seventh birthday by presenting Wes Fogden with the Player of the Month award for January before last Saturday’s game against St Albans. Wes’s contribution in the midfield made him a clear winner; capped by his winning goal against Bromley late in the month.
Because of the current run of away games, the February award won’t be presented until Staines Town visit on March 20th, so there is still plenty of time to vote for your winner by email to this site, or by personal message to Thimble on the message boards.

Hampton stiffer in second half
Wed Mar 3 2010, 18:56
The Hawks were held to a point by league underperformers Hampton and Richmond Borough at the Beveree last night after Mustafa Tiryaki’s first half opener was cancelled out in the second half.
Tiryaki put the Hawks ahead in the 38th minute when he connected with a Jon McDonald corner unchallenged and sent the ball past keeper Matt Lovett. However the hosts ensured a vital point in their push for league survival in the 71st minute when Dave Tarpey took the ball on from Karl Beckford and fired a shot past Nathan Ashmore into the top corner from 18 yards.
Further details to follow.

Weston off
Sat Feb 27 2010, 09:26
Today’s game against Weston has been postponed due to water logging in the central part of the Westleigh Park pitch. The inspecting official claimed that after this week’s constant heavy rain, the pitch is in very poor condition and will now need a prolonged dry spell to improve it to a playable standard.
As such Monday night’s Academy game has been postponed too, meaning the next home match will be against Staines Town in three weeks.

Single goal halts Hawks’ rise
Mon Feb 22 2010, 23:16
The Hawks’ seven match unbeaten run was ended at Westleigh Park tonight where visitors St Albans City battled to a 1-0 win. On a heavy pitch, City weathered some extended periods of pressure from the home side, but it was Drew Roberts’s 55th minute drive that made the difference after a misplaced midfield ball allowed Jake Beecroft to free the Saints’ leading striker on the left wing.
Joe Tabiri hit the bar for the hosts and visiting keeper Paul Bastock made several essential saves to keep his side ahead, but having missed their chance to get within three points of the playoffs the Hawks remain in tenth place.

Hawks eye playoffs as unbeaten run stretches to seven
Sat Feb 20 2010, 17:24
The Hawks re-entered the league’s top ten and extended their unbeaten run to seven with a 2-0 victory at Worcester City this afternoon.
After an uncertain morning which only saw the St George’s Lane surface passed fit for play late on, the Hawks took a 34th minute lead when City keeper Jake Meredith lost hold of a corner and Gary MacDonald got the better of Graham Ward and Jack Durrant to bundle the ball into the net.
The Hawks then ensured the win against a flagging City side in the 69th minute when Jon McDonald crossed from the left and Meredith lost the ball again, leaving Paul Hinshelwood to turn it over the line.

The Academy have now firmly shaken off their weather enforced winter break and are playing games rapidly to make up for lost time. Having hammered Farnborough Town 5-1 in the league last week (report here) to go second in the Conference South A table, the side moved on to beat Alton Town 2-0 in the Quarter Final of the Hampshire Youth Floodlit Cup (report here). They will now face Gosport Borough at home in the Semi Final in two week’s time. The Hawks then lost only their second league game of the season at fourth placed Basingstoke Town last night 2-1 (report here).

Hawks to play FA Cup 3rd Round tie at the third attemptSat Jan 23
The Hawks Ladies face the biggest game in their short history tomorrow when they take on Cardiff City in the 3rd Round Proper of the FA Cup. Originally drawn as a home tie, the game has twice been postponed because of the horrendous winter weather and is now instead set to switch to Wales and the Cardiff International Sports Stadium, kick off 2pm.
Club Secretary Trevor Brock said today:
“It’s not a game that favours us because we’re the underdogs and their side features six full Welsh International players. It’s a shame we’ve had to give away the home advantage, but we’ll give them a tough test because the reward on offer is something special.”
In an equivalent to the men’s side’s history setting game against Liverpool, the winner of tomorrow’s game will next week play a fourth round match against the internationally famous Doncaster Rovers Belles, currently third in the highest league in Women’s Football.

Academy UpdateSat Jan 9
The Hawks Academy side has been hit hard by weather conditions through the winter so far, meaning the side have played just four games since the end of November. Way back on November 11th the side recorded a 4-0 win against Weymouth (report) followed a week later by a win away at Cirencester Town (report). Controversy followed in December when the Hawks lost 3-2 away at Team Bath (report) and then on Januray 4th the side made good progress in the Hampshire Midweek Floodlit Cup with an 8-0 win against Petersfield Town (report).
