Jordan and Baptiste share major honours on awards night

Tom Jordan was named Players’ Player of the Year and Rocky Baptiste Supporters’ Player of the Year during another successful awards night at the club on Saturday. The evening proved to be one of the best attended yet, with almost all of the Hawks squad present to talk to a room full of fans and celebrate the highs and commiserate the lows of the season just gone.
As previously reported, the announcement of the player’s player award was backed by the tremendous news that Jordan has now signed a new contract, and the Hawks’ Captain received his trophy from Shaun Gale to a standing ovation from all present. Rocky Baptiste came second.
Hawks fans have voted in their hundreds for the Supporters’ Player of the Season, and Baptiste won the accolade by a considerable margin ahead of second placed Justin Gregory and third placed Shane Gore. The trophy was presented by Steve Cox of TB Trophies, the company who have kindly sponsored the Player of the Month shield for the last two seasons.
Shane Gore was announced as the winner of the prestigious HawkSupport Unsung Hero trophy, which is voted for by HawkSupport members and given to the one player in the side who makes the biggest contribution to the team’s performance without necessarily being acknowledged for it. Gore was presented with the trophy by Hawks fan Don Jacks
Making his second appearance on the Player of the Month shield is Richard Pacquette, who was given the April Player of the Month award. Baptiste of course picked up the golden boot with his astonishing tally of 36 goals across all competitions, and Jamie Collins, absent on the night, took receipt of the club’s Young Player of the Year trophy, presented to the under-24 player making the biggest contribution to the side’s success through the year.
The final award, the Havant and Waterlooville Clubman of the Year, was for the first time ever presented to a couple. Malc and Aly Jamieson this season have performed miracles in rejuvenating attempts to organise regular away travel to games, starting in the autumn with a small minibus and growing the scheme to the point of needing a 49 seater coach regularly during the April and May games. This has not only boosted much needed away support this season, but also given the chance for all fans to get to all games.
